British actor Ian Gelder, best known for his role as Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 74. Gelder died five months after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Gelder's husband, actor Ben Daniels, paid tribute to his late husband in a statement. "It is with huge huge sadness and a shattered heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved husband, Ian Gelder," Daniels wrote. "Ian was an extraordinarily talented actor and a wonderful human being. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."
Gelder was born in London in 1949. He began his acting career in the theater, appearing in productions such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth. He made his film debut in 1978 in the movie The Duellists.
Gelder went on to appear in numerous films and television shows, including The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Doctor Who. He also had a recurring role as Kevan Lannister in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
Gelder's death is a great loss to the world of acting. He was a talented actor who brought joy to many people with his performances. He will be deeply missed.
